Chopin
The notes of Chopin, are they loops,
a charming smile,
a scent of Egyptian cigarettes,
the shape or the scent of a flower?
R. Walser
"La belle nuit." is a theatrical concert project based on the figure of the Swiss writer Robert Walser.
Robert Walser is all ears: the sounds of nature, a piano melody that escapes from an open window, the vocals of a singer practicing in a clearing, a folk dance accompanied by an accordion: he marvels, and marvels us in return by his language borrowed from a new musicality at the beginning of the 20th century. The intimate and the sublime intermingle in "spontaneous music" (Max Brod, 1911), a twirling improvisation.
To illustrate the different aspects of the texts and the personality of the writer, we have chosen Lieder, melodies and piano works by composers who seem to us to belong to his family, by their inspiration from popular music, by their audacity and invention, by the choice of themes such as wandering, love, daily life, themes treated with passion or humor.
Led by prose and poems recited by comedian Yann Pugin, the audience embarks on a musical journey into the world of one of the great Swiss German-speaking writers of the 20th century.
Musicians: Sophie Marilley (mezzo-soprano) et Fiona Hengartner (piano)
Narrator: Yann Pugin (comedian)
